CLASS OPTIONS
At American Operations, we use a three tier method to grade our classes.
There are Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced classes for the firearms and medical portions. Anyone is allowed to sign up for any class, but know your limitations when signing up for each class.
For example, if you are new to firearms, the advanced class may be a little more than someone with basic knowledge could effectively and safely be a part of. On the flip side, if you have a decent amount of knowledge in these areas and are taking a class to keep your skills fresh, you may want to start with intermediate/advanced rather than the basic class.
At the end of the day, only you know where you are when it comes these areas. Please read the class descriptions below to pick the right class for you!
FIREARMS
BASIC FIREARMS CLASS
The Basic firearms (pistol and rifle) class is simply that. Basic. There are no real bells and whistles to this class. This class is designed to slow everything down and really focus on fundamentals, form, and function. Topics in this class inlcude:
-
Firearms safety rules
-
How a firearm operates
-
Grip
-
Firearm choice
-
Stance
-
How to align sights
-
Trigger squeeze
-
Safety operations (clearing firearms)
-
Malfunctions
-
Static shooting drills
***There will also be a medical portion in the beginning of each firearms class given at American Operations. We believe a basic knowledge of medical procedures, and the tools available to you, is paramount to staying vigilant.
INTERMEDIATE FIREARMS CLASS
During the intermediate class we are going to speed things up a bit. This class is designed for shooters who have exterior/interior holsters and have been shooting prior to this class. Basic knowledge of firearms is recommended to take this class due to the it being sped up. This class includes:
-
Refresher of the Basics class (warmup)
-
Dynamic drills (shooting while moving)
-
Barricade shooting and how to navigate obstacles.
-
Drawing from a holster (exterior/interior)
-
Timed drills to speed up your target/sight acquisition
-
Off hand shooting
***The goal of this class is to put some stress on you, in a very controlled manner. There won't be any pushups or craziness like that, just more pressure through competition and scenarios to simulate real life.
***The medical portion of this class is also going to be intermediate, but you are not expected to know any medical procedures prior to showing up to this class. There will be medical refresher at the beginning of this class as well.
ADVANCED FIREARMS CLASS
This class is going to push you to some of your limits. The point of this class is combine the Basic and Intermediate class skills and push them in realistic scenarios. There will be a physical portion (to include pushups, dummy drag, etc.) mixed with a live fire drill immediately upon completion of the physical task given. This class is going to be hard, but more fun than you have ever had at the range. This class will also include:
-
Basic and Intermediate refresher (warm up)
-
Shooting through barricades with tight fields of view
-
Shooting in non-traditional positions (on your side, on your back, etc.)
-
Shooting and communicating with a partner
-
Tactical movements in open/urban settings
-
Shooting from vehicles
***The medical portion to this will be a little more intense. There will be actors on the range who are trained to really induce stress while trying to evaluate a patient for injuries. A basic knowledge is going to come in handy, but again we will go over medical in the beginning of the class.
MEDICAL
At American Operations we preach medical care just about as much as firearms for vigilance. Medical has one goal and it is to save lives. A thorough knowledge of the basic life saving measures can literally be the difference between you living and dying, or your loved ones making it through a significant event as well. Medical will be taught in every single firearms class, at different intensities, to ensure that every person has the ability treat injuries until medical personnel arrive. Medical portions will include:
-
Patient assessment and VERY basic anatomy
-
Tourniquet placement and proper use
-
Nasopharyngeal airway use (NPA)
-
Packing a wound
-
Pressure bandages
-
Chest seals
-
Signs of shock
-
How to properly call for medical attention
***There will also be 4 hour MEDICAL ONLY classes available for those wanting more from this portion. All students will also be getting a discount code from MyMedic for taking any class with American Operations. All items you will be taught how to use come straight from them.
